Carlo Chiesa has been appointed as Head of Research and Development Water Supply System at Metropolitana Milanese, Milan water utility, in 2008. In staff to the water supply system manager he has the responsibility to enhance the structural, hydraulic and energy performances of the system by testing and adopting state of the art technologies and best practices.

He has designed and implemented the computer model of the whole system and is currently managing projects, both of research and experimental, of pumps and pumping optimization, network pressure management by districts, leaks detection on large transmission and distribution mains, optimization of customer meter diameter and life cycle, customer demand analysis and forecasting.

Before joining Metropolitana Milanese he has constantly been linked to water and its management working for both independent hydraulic and environmental engineering consultants firms and general contractors, in Italy and abroad. In 2003 he was awarded a master in economy and management of the public utilities at Università Bocconi in Milan thus completing his technical background in water resources management with management skills in tariffs and regulation, public finance and accounting, public-private partnership contracts. He graduated in civil hydraulic engineering at Politecnico di Milano.
